Morning Oracle – Starfest Edition

Fans who came by during the weekend were able to pick up a special edition the Morning Oracle. In addition to news of a peace treaty with the Galactic Empire, readers could find out about the PREvention of Transfiguration ENhanced Deception (PRETEND) Act, the attack on Timmernak, and the arrival of Avistrum’s new Quidditch coach, Vittoria d’Medici.

Wizard Jeopardy

Wizard Jeopardy, hosted by the Marauders, was a great success, with more than 100 audience members in attendance. We distributed a number of door prizes as well as our main prize, a free weekend pass to Starfest 2008. Patrick Brownson was the winner of our Jeopardy game after two tiebreaker questions. Our runners-up received an Alivan’s wand and a Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie poster. We also gave away 50 “mourning armbands” for Sirius Black for our fans to wear at the movie premiere. We would like to thank Sage Moon and Starfest for donating all of our prizes for the event.

New Head Boy, Head Girl, and Prefects!

After the Wizard Jeopardy contest, Headmaster Dowling showed up to announce the elevation of Trent Voertigern and Audrey “Trouble” Deserand to Head Boy and Head Girl. He also awarded Prefect badges to Enigmus‘s Susan Jevoli, Lobostro‘s Emmaline Roffignac, and Colubrae‘s Lucas Zeiapher. Congratulations to all of them for superb work during the last year!

Quidditch Contest

New Quidditch coach Vittoria d’Medici refereed over 60 matches, played on the PlayStation 2, to crown winners for our Quidditch Tournament. Saturday’s winner was Kore-Rhi Drakenwulf of Enigmus, but Opus 2006 winner Andrew Harcrow of Parador reclaimed his crown with a win on Sunday. Each day’s winner claimed a Nimbus 2000 replica broom, courtesy of Starfest.

Art Contest

Our art contest was won by Parador’s Bella Byrne, who submitted a hand-made wand for the competition. She won a free pass to Starfest 2008. Second place went to Susan Jevoli, winning a Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie poster for her painting of Renfield. Third place, an Alivan’s wand, went to Emmaline Roffignac for her watercolor of an ankh. Well done!

Art Contest People’s Choice Voting – Come by and view all of the submissions for the art contest, and vote on your favorite for People’s Choice! Winners will be announced on Sunday, April 22.

Friday, April 20

8:00PM – Wizard Jeopardy – Come to Main Events to have a chance to participate in Wizard Jeopardy! Sign up at our table starting from the opening of the convention to have a chance to win prizes including movie posters, gift certificates, Harry Potter collectibles, and a weekend pass to Starfest 2008! The first 50 people in the door receive a free Sirius Black mourning armband you can wear when you go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on July 13th.

Saturday, April 21

10:00AM – 6:00PM – Lady Viola Fey‘s Death Day Party! – The weekend of Starfest just happens to coincide with the Lady’s 300th Death Day! Come by and make her a card and enjoy some refreshments while they last!

10:00AM – 6:00PM – Quidditch Photos – Come by and have your picture taken riding a broom and chasing the Golden Snitch, or swatting a Bludger, or shooting the Quaffle at the hoops!

10:00AM – 5:00PM – Virtual Quidditch Tournament – Try your hand at Quidditch World Cup on the PlayStation 2. Meet Vittoria d’Medici, the new Quidditch coach, who just recently retired from the Italian national team. We will crown a champion both Saturday and Sunday!

11:00AM – 12:00 Noon – Introduction to Transfiguration – Join Professor Aberfoyle for an introduction (or refresher) to this core subject in your wizarding education. Try your hand at transfiguring rocks back into rats! (Space limited.)

1:00PM – 2:00PM – Defense Against Dark Magic: Pensieves – Headmaster Dowling will teach you all about pensieves and give you the chance to construct one of your own! (Space limited.)

Sunday, April 22

10:00AM – 4:00PM – Lady Viola Fey’s Death Day Party – The festivities continue for another day!

10:00AM – 4:00PM – Quidditch Photos – A second chance to get your photo taken.
