ACT I – FRIDAY
As the faculty and the students gather for Opening
Ceremonies, Secretary ABERFOYLE comes in, flanked by Chief
Auror ANTON Tovoretski. He is greeted by Professors
DOWLING and BOUDREAUX.
(realizing the students are around)
…sorry, Mr. Secretary. What are you doing here?
I came to supervise the defense of the school personally.
Surely you could have sent Vice-Secretary Kensington?
Oswald has been overseeing the defenses around the Hexagon, and
he can’t be in two places at once. Besides, we all know Salem
is a diversion. Drake is coming here, first.
All the more reason why you shouldn’t be here. You’re in too
That’s what I told him.
I’m not going to hide in fear as Drake attacks the school I
love so much. I owe too much to all of you not to stand by your

Professor KOBIYASHI steps to the podium to begin her
opening remarks for the start of term.
Students, welcome to a new term at Avistrum. There is much to
discuss and tell you all, but first, let’s get right to the
sorting ceremony. Heads of houses, please meet me at the

Fineus portrait dedication.
Now, I will get right to the point. As you may or may not know,
Simon Drake has vowed to return to Avistrum at some point this
term. At that time, he expects all of us, students and faculty
alike, to bow to him in loyalty. If we do not, he will destroy
us. I cannot speak for the rest of the faculty, but personally,
I have no plans of bowing before anyone.
None of us do, headmistress. None of us do.
Faculty nods in agreement.
Thank you all. Students, most of you have seen first hand the
destruction, death and torment he has brought to the wizarding
world. I can’t imagine any of you would want to join with his
side, but if you do, that is your right and you’re welcome to
do so. But, I would ask that you leave now.
Wait for someone to leave. No one does.
You all have no idea how much that means to me and to this
faculty. Thank you all. Now, let’s talk about how we’ll protect
you from Drake. Drake has triggered the lockdown each time he’s
come to the school, and each time, someone has died to do it.
During the War of 1812, the school’s administration added a
failsafe to the lockdown so it could be triggered manually.
They never used it, but I think now would be the best time to
Absolutely. It’s the best way to protect the students. We have
the additional barriers outside the school, but it is a good
I have a concern or two. We don’t know if triggering the
lockdown would affect classes. We also don’t know how it
differs from the regular lockdown. That’s strictly an emergency
measure. The manual lockdown may have more features that we
don’t know of. The documentation is sparse, at best.
I agree, but I think it’s worth the risk. The protection of the
students is the most important factor.
I agree, Headmistress.
Heads of house, please join me by the sorting platform.
I call upon the Founders to protect these walls and all who are
I call for the fortitude of Parador.
I call for the intelligence of Enigmus.
I call for the allegiance of Lobostro.
I call for the ingeniousness of Colubrae.
I call for the protection of the Founders.
Did it work?
Kinton strides out from the back, a note in hand.
Headmistress. The lockdown has been activated. This is for you
– it is a detailed list of the protections in place. If you
find this unsatisfactory, please see me, and I will help you to
remedy the situation.
(slightly taken aback)
Thank you, Reginald.
(reads the paper, and smiles)
This will be perfect. Thank you.
You all will notice that there’s another protection in place as
well. Vice Secretary Oswald Kensington has graciously arranged
for a thaumaturgic portal to be placed in the school as an
extra security measure.
A what? Is that legal? Wait… is that something I have to
clean? If so, I’m out.
It’s basically a “magic mirror.” It just shows us what’s going
So I don’t have to clean it?
Then it can stay.
Thank you for your approval, Maldraco. Students, you’ll find
this in the long classroom, in the end closest to the common
room. If you have any questions about this, please ask a
faculty member later.
Also, Johnny wanted me to read this note to you students:
“I sure wish I could be there with you all tonight, but as Drake promised to come back this year, I thought it would be abetter use of my time to keep practicing with the wand that Honner gave me. I’m slowly getting the hang of it, I think.
I got to thinking though, and decided I need to form my own group here, a company of soldiers that would be ready to defend the school in case of threats. After all, a soldier is only as strong as the other soldiers around him. I’m only strong if you students are around me.I asked the Headmistress if she would be willing to let me do that, and she kindly said she would.
So, since I can’t be there tonight, if you would like to sign my muster roll and join my company, see one of the professors and they’ll sign you up. Thanks!”
You all are dismissed.
Post-opening. Faculty sign up students for “Johnny’s
ACT II – SATURDAY
Kobiyashi learns of the attacks on Japan by a very
powerful dark wizard. She is visibly shaken.
Headmistress, are you all right?
No, Anton, I’m not. Have you seen the Oracle this morning?
Those attacks are happening right around my home. I don’t know
if my family is okay, or what’s going on…
I will contact my colleagues in the Auror Service overseas and
get some details for you, Headmistress. Will that help to set
your mind at ease?
Yes, Anton, that would be wonderful! Thank you.
Anton strides backstage to contact his colleagues.
During first class, Persephone runs to the window and
starts banging on it.
I can see the stars! Look at the stars!
Persephone, there are no stars out. It’s daytime.
Not for long.
What do you mean?
(stirs, as if waking from a dream)
I don’t know. Can I go back to school now?
Anton also returns and delivers the news to Kobiyashi that
her family is okay, but the attacks continue.
As Dueling ends, the magic mirror comes to life — and
shows a cavalcade of tanks heading toward the outside of
the school, led by The SOLDIER.
What happened to Johnny?
I don’t know. He and the Soldier were there, and then suddenly
Aleator, are you alright?
Fine, thank you, Headmistr-
He stops, wincing in pain. Signa crosses to him.
I would like to make sure. Please, follow me to the hospital
Signa, I’m fine. Thanks, but I…
Professor, I am the nurse. If I say you need to go to the
hospital wing, I mean it.
I appreciate it, but…
(points to the hospital wing)
Please and thank you.
I have some healing experience. May I help?
Certainly. Two wands are better than one.
He’ll be ok.
(voice gets more sinister)
Not if I can help it.
Persephone, who are you talking to?
The Deeper Darkness. It’s coming.
Maldraco, take Persephone to her quarters and confine her there
until she is… stable.
Yes ma’am. Let’s go, crazypants.
Where are we going? Are we going for a picnic?
The children are all gathered together in one classroom.
The prophecy tablet lays on a central table.
Students, Professor Argiletum would like to address you all. It
involves something important concerning how to defeat Drake.
Thank you, Headmistress. As you may remember, Scorpio Douglas
found this tablet in Drake’s office when he impersonated him
back in April. I have been studying it since that time, and
have come to the conclusion that it’s a prophecy. It speaks of
four things that “the ruler,” who I assume to mean Drake, needs
in order to gain and retain power. Those four things are: the
spring, the star, the staff, and the stone.
I believe these things relate to items we know Drake has. The
staff is a reference to his wand, which is quite powerful. The
star is self explanatory; I believe that to be the star with
which he controls Johnny.
My assumption is that the spring relates to the Fountains of
Youth. I heard the Soldier mention that he had “destroyed the
spring” when he leveled the fountain earlier. That got me
thinking about whether our own fountain could have been a
Fountain of Youth. It would explain some of Drake’s interest in
But, back on topic. The last thing mentioned is the stone. I
believe that to be this tablet here before us.
My thought is this: if Drake pulls power from this object, the
object must be destroyed.
I agree. This is a very powerful object, though, which is why
we brought all of you students in here now. We need your help
to destroy it.
A simple spell, like a severing charm, should be enough to
crack it. The simpler the spell, the easier it will be for a
large group of us to do.
But will the lockdown allow a large, concentrated magical force
I studied the documentation a little further last night, and I
believe non-offensive spells are allowed by the lockdown.
Very well. Students, point your wands at the tablet. On my
signal, we all say the spell, Diffindo, together. On the count
All count “1, 2, 3… Diffindo!”
Nothing appears to happen.
He walks over to the tablet, and is able to pull two
It worked. Thank you everyone!
Kids are shooed to their classes.
ACT III – SUNDAY
Prior to the first class of the day.
After class finishes, we hear the BOOGEYMAN’s voice.
DOWLING looks around.
Did anyone else hear that?
Yes, I did. Is that who I think it is?
It’s the Deeper Darkness!
Dowling, come out and plaa-ay!
Dowling clenches his fists.
Clark, you can’t.
I can’t? What I can’t do is let him in this school. The longer
he’s been out of Alcatraz, the more his power’s grown.
We don’t know how to stop him.
Then we’ll just have to slow him down.
Well, then I’m coming with you.
Oh no, you’re not.
Once a Dark Hunter, always a Dark Hunter, Clark. Besides, I owe
that S.O.B. some payback.
Even so, you’re too important. We need to keep you safe.
I didn’t come here to stay in the castle and shout orders. End
of discussion, Commander.
The use of Dowling’s official rank shows him the Secretary
is serious. He yields.
I’m coming, too.
Aleator, I need you in here. Let them handle this.
I’m his deputy, I should be out there with him, protecting this
You’re MY deputy too. You ran out there without thinking
yesterday, and it almost cost you your life. I want to go out
there and fight too, but if these two can’t push them back, the
students’ best hope is in here, with the lockdown and US
protecting them. We can be the last line of defense together.
I understand, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,
(to Dowling and Aberfoyle)
Do me a favor, boys — just kick his butt quick and get back in
here, will ya? We have classes to worry about.
Come on, Cass.
(puzzled by her own concern)
Dowling nods to her then he and Aberfoyle stride from the
school towards the courtyard.
The mirror comes to life, and we see the BOOGEYMAN BATTLE
After the video sequence begins, ELIZABETH runs after
As the battle rages, the staff react appropriately to the
events in the mirror.
After the flashback-within-a-flashback occurs, Dowling
exclaims “The lanterns! If you can hear me inside, we need
Do you think that would work? Can the mirror channel magic?
I don’t know. Kensington never said.
Well, we have to try anyway.
What about the lockdown?
The Patronus Charm is a defensive spell. The lockdown should
Everyone, point your lanterns at the mirror.
The students all take their lanterns and point them at the
“Expecto Patronum” on Professor Dowling’s signal, students.
Dowling in the mirror shouts “Now!”
We see the effects of the Patronus charm in the mirror. As
the Dementors and Boogeyman are driven off, and the image
in the mirror fades, the three heroes stumble back into
the castle. SIGNA intercepts them, handing them each a
Eat that, and go lay down in the hospital wing. Hopefully the
chocolate will be enough to restore you.
The Patronus came from in here, didn’t it? But, how did that
It seems the mirror is more than just a surveillance device.
Enough. You can talk about it later. They need to rest.
Kobiyashi looks a bit shocked at Signa’s assertiveness,
but backs off.
Aberfoyle, Dowling, and Elizabeth nod weakly and shuffle
off to the hospital wing.
Drake charges in, followed by two minions.
Just you and two others, Simon? I thought this was your
endgame. I expected an invasion.
There have to be rules in war.
I suppose I should cut right to the chase. Have you made your
decision? I hope you have, and I hope that you’ve made the
We have, Drake. We will never bow to you.
That’s so unfortunate. I had hoped you would see the light, and
the futility of what you’re doing. I sent two attacks before…
And we defeated them both.
Because I wanted you to! You’re a boxer, Clark. You should know
the strategy of “softening up your opponent.” It makes them
more vulnerable for the final blow.
(draws his wand)
Well, consider this the beginning of that final blow.
He points his wand at Kobiyashi.
Goodbye, Headmistress. Avada Kadavra!
We knew you’d try that again. You seem to be a one-trick pony,
Drake. We manually triggered the lockdown so you couldn’t kill
Of course you did. I hoped you would, actually. I had to try —
just in case you were stupid enough to leave the lockdown off.
But that’s perfect.
Drake snaps his fingers. A minion hands him a sword.
I would rather use this, anyway. Takes me back to my days as a
conquistador. Oh, where’s Johnny? I would so love to see his
skills as a swordsman.
Right. He’s not here. That’s too bad. You could probably use
him right now.
You’ll have to settle for us. Fill your hands, you SOB.
(sees Dowling lining up against him as well)
Really? How do you two plan on beating me?
With my help.
I don’t know who you are.
My name is…
And I don’t care. If you want to throw your hand in with
these…people, that decision is yours.
Don’t sound so cocky, Drake. You forget about the lockdown.
And you forget that I was a conquistador before I was a wizard.
I’ve killed more people with this sword than I have with my
wand. Believe me, between the wizard and the old man, it’s the
old man you should be afraid of.
(takes a swipe at Aberfoyle and Dowling)
Sword fight commences. Blackout curtains come down. Drake
fights Dowling and Aberfoyle, while Kinton fights a
minion. The other minion goes down to harass the kids, but
before he gets there, Kobiyashi blocks two of his punches
and punches him out. Drake gets the upper hand on Dowling
and Aberfoyle just as Kinton defeats the minion. Drake
points his sword tip at Kinton.
Good show, good show! Now, drop the sword and join your
You’ll never win, Drake!
How many times do I have to tell you? I’ve already won!
We’ve followed the prophecy, Drake. We’ve destroyed or
nullified two of the things we need to make you powerless.
Ah yes. I wondered when we’d get to this. The four things I
pull power from, supposedly. The staff, the stone, the spring
and the star. You destroyed the stone — yes, I know this,
Mordecai. The staff…
(holds up his wand)
has been nullified by the lockdown. The spring… the fountains
of youth. I destroyed them all.
What?! All of them? NO!
Yes, Trent, all of them. I needed to stop
you poking around, trying to figure out the fountain’s powers.
Plus, I once told all of you: there have to be rules in war. I
was breaking my own rule, giving myself extra lives, so to
speak. So, I’m all in right now. I can’t keep myself alive past
this lifetime. No more waiting, no more hiding. So that just
(holds up his hand showing the one star of the original flag embedded in his palm)
She runs to him and bows at his feet.
I see the error of my ways! I want to serve you again.
Drake stares at her.
Please. I want nothing more than to be by your side again.
Please forgive me!
Drake continues to stare at her.
Master. I love you, and I will never betray you again.
Drake finally caves.
Of course you won’t, my child.
(to the faculty)
She’s been with you for two years, and still she longs to be
with me. In time, you and the entire world will feel the same.
He offers her his star-tattooed hand.
Thank you, master.
She closes both hands around his and begins to recite a
Veni ad me stella, veni ad me stella…
What are you doing?
Persephone pulls away, looking at Drake, smiling. She
opens her left hand to the students to reveal the star on
her hand. Drake looks at his own hand and fumes.
I have it now. The last piece of your power is MINE!
You stupid wench. I’ve had that power for over 230 years. You
don’t think I know how to get it back?!
(recites a spell)
Stella manu mea, stella manu mea…
He opens his hand to reveal the star is back on his hand.
You cannot take what is rightfully mine.
It is not yours, either, Drake. You stole it from the country.
I will destroy him, Aleator. I will take him into the next
The void? Johnny, no! You’ll be destroyed too!
I owe you that much. Please, friend, let me go. I do this for
all of us.
This is absurd! I command the star! It does not command me!
That is where you’re wrong. Help me, children!
Kobiyashi remembers Johnny’s “company of soldiers.”
Students, Johnny needs his soldiers! Hold on to your stars!
Give Johnny the strength to do it!
Yes! That’s the answer!
Hold on to them and send your strength to Johnny!
The children do — and suddenly, Drake’s star hand is
pulled toward the archway. He’s being dragged into the
void by Johnny.
It’s working! Keep it up!
(at the sky)
No! You can’t! You’re just a soldier. I command you!
You are bound to me as much as I am bound to you. My strength
comes from my family, friends, country, and — most importantly
— my fellow soldiers. If they are behind me, you don’t stand a
Drake lurches toward the void.
(pleading toward the students and faculty)
You all will never get it, will you? There’s so much we could
have done. The earth, the world, the Muggles, all of them
could have had been saved. They just need to be ruled!
Johnny’s arms shoot out of the archway, grabbing Drake
from behind. Drake screams as he’s dragged into the void.
He’s gone. My best friend, gone…
He gave his life for you, for all of us. You should be very
Professor Kobiyashi once again stands at the podium to
begin closing ceremonies.
The students march in, singing “America the Beautiful” on their own. The faculty look at each other stunned with tear filled eyes as they join in. At the end they take their seats before Headmistress Kobiyashi addresses them.
Students, before we begin, I have to say — WE WON!
It’s because of all of you that Johnny was able to defeat
Drake. Unfortunately, he had to sacrifice himself in the
process. Let’s all have a moment of silence for our dear
friend, lost in service to his country and Avistrum.
Headmistress, I hate to interrupt, but I just found this under
my chair, and I think it might be important.
The prefect hands a package to Professor Boudreaux. He
opens it and pulls out the REVOLUTIONARY JOHNNY TOY. He
smiles as he recognizes his friend.
He also pulls out a folded fabric triangle. Opening it,
it’s revealed to be Johnny’s flag, whole and complete.
Oh my word. It’s Johnny’s flag, and it’s complete.
He’s bound to that flag. That means he’s not gone. We can call
him whenever we want.
Go ahead, Aleator. I’d like to thank him personally for his
Boudreaux starts to do something with the flag to summon
Johnny, then stops.
You know, no. I apologize, Mr. Secretary.
(to the toy)
You deserve a bit of a break, I think.
I hope you understand, sir.
I do, Aleator. You’re right, he’s earned some time off.
Let’s go over awards and award the House Cup!
Awards and House Cup presentation.
Before we wrap up this term, I have an announcement to make. I
haven’t discussed this with any of the faculty, as I hadn’t
made a decision until a few minutes ago. It’s with a heavy
heart that I must resign the position of Headmistress.
General shock from the faculty.
With the recent events in Japan, my home and family are
threatened. I have spoken to them, and they’re safe, for now.
But they can’t do it alone. Now that Avistrum is safe, I feel
that I have to go. If I can help them to bring down another
dark wizard and make the world that much safer, I will. I have
to defend my home.
I would like to nominate my Deputy Headmaster, Aleator
Boudreaux, for the office of Headmaster. Professor Boudreaux,
will you accept?
(comes to the podium)
Thank you, Headmistress. This is all unexpected. I wasn’t ready
for all of this.
I’m not ready. I’m rediscovering life, and still getting used
to all of my responsibilities here. I think the school would be
best served if I remained Deputy, ma’am. But I thank you from
the bottom of my heart for trusting in me to be able to do it.
(bows to her)
However, if I may, I do have a suggestion for your replacement.
I would like to suggest Clark Dowling.
What? No. Thank you, but no.
Hear me out. I know why you resigned in the first place; to
focus on Drake and how to bring the fight to him. I also know
that you were really shaken by Drake’s admission that he pulled
the strings to get you into the Headmaster position to begin
with. You took it as proof that you weren’t right for the job,
but I think it’s testament to your skill at it. You were
Headmaster for quite a while, and very good at it. I think
you’ve earned the position — if not before, most certainly
I agree. Professor Dowling, will you accept?
Drake may be gone but there will always be threats against this
school. I am a fighter, an Auror, and I’m not sure having
someone like me in the position of Headmaster is the best thing
for the school.
Nonsense. We had prosperity and safety in all the years you
were in charge. Yes, there were challenges and obstacles to
overcome, but you always pulled us through. I agree with
Aleator. If you hadn’t earned it before, you certainly have
now. I can’t think of a better place for a warrior, someone to
protect this school and its inhabitants, than at the school
I’m just not sure.
Fine. I’ll take it then. Sign me up, Sachiko! Do I have to take
Everyone looks at him.
What? Seriously, Clark, just take the job. There’s very few
people I would trust with my life. You’re one of them.
Plus, I didn’t have to clean as much when you were Headmaster.
I like that.
Kinton walks up to Dowling and whispers something in his
ear. Dowling looks taken aback for a second, before
True. Very true.
Maldraco, after that endorsement, how can I say no? I accept
the position, Headmistress.
