The founder of Enigmus fellowship was Englebert Enigmus (1611-1707), oldest and wisest of the four Avistrum founders. Enigmus was born in the Jamestown colony, and lived his entire life in the New World, aside from his education in Britain from 1622-1629. Enigmus was an excellent potions master, and rarely used his wand. Englebert was widely regarded as a clever and wise wizard. He served as the first Headmaster of Avistrum until his death in 1707.*
Enigmus valued intelligence and wisdom above all other traits in his students, and Enigmuses are known for that to this very day. The symbol of Enigmus is the sphinx, the legendary half-woman, half-lion who challenged travelers with a riddle
The Head of Enigmus is currently Kristala Koles, potions professor.
The current Lights of Enigmus fellowship are Octavia Aberfoyle and Kahlan Long.
* This is from the official school history as it was written in the 1800s. However, in 2015, Englebert Enigmus appeared at Avistrum, having faked his death and used a hidden chamber to travel forward in time to avert a terrible curse. There, he was reunited with his old colleague, Caterina Colubrae. After she died protecting the school from the curse, he departed to travel the world. He occasionally gets in touch, such as when he designated Professor Koles as his heir in 2016.
