The road so far….
Three years ago, the students traveled in time. They accidentally created an alternate timeline where Simon Drake had won the war. Drake controlled not only Avistrum Castle, but the entire United States with an iron fist. Magic-kind had declared dominance, no longer hiding in the shadows. They treated all Muggles as their subordinates, servants at best. Worse yet, Clark Dowling was not the man we know. In this nightmarish place, he was feared as the powerful Archmage. The Archmage was second only to Simon Drake. The Duchess Seraphina was Clark’s wife, ruling at his side.
Alongside their professors, the students were able to repair the timeline… with a few noticeable differences. Unbeknownst to anyone, they were followed by one of Simon Drake’s most dangerous lieutenants, Algernon Boudreaux.
Algernon showed himself at Avistrum last term, posing as his father, Aleator. There he placed himself in the legendary battle chess match of the Knights of the Sphinx. At stake? A journal that could hold the key to the power of the Archmage.
An unlikely ally stood in his path, Simon Drake. Pulled from the Void, Drake declared that Algernon was an agent of chaos and unfit to rule. He would stand with Avistrum as its Chess General. Drake would ultimately lead the forces of Avistrum to victory in the chess match. However, Algernon would prove himself far from done and his true goal of finding the Library of Alexandria. The students were shocked to learn that Alexandria exists and holds knowledge to obtain magical power far greater than the Archmage wielded.
Before embarking on a crime wave that would instill new fear into both people of magic and muggle alike, Algernon would bring heartbreak to the Avistrum family. On October 30th, 2016, Algernon Boudreaux attacked the Dowling home, murdering Samuel Dowling.
Through the shadows of tragedy and grief, light poured through. All too aware of the fragility of the world, Elizabeth Blackwell and Clark Dowling decided to marry earlier than planned. But while the celebrations occurred, Algernon continued on in his plot for the lost library.
Now, it looks as though he has found a way. The mythical Labyrinth looks to be real, and Algernon may have discovered the path straight to the doors of Alexandria.
